Inclusive Economic Development and Reintegration

OBI’s approach to inclusive economic development focuses on strengthening the conditions under which women, survivors of violence, and other vulnerable groups can move from crisis or exclusion toward greater economic security, participation, and resilience.

The organisation’s work in this area connects protection with reintegration pathways. Rather than treating economic support as a stand-alone activity, OBI develops models that link legal and psychosocial recovery with access to skills, livelihoods, entrepreneurship, and local economic participation. This is particularly relevant for women affected by violence, displacement, or structural barriers to entering or re-entering economic life.

Depending on programme design and context, OBI’s economic development initiatives may include training, mentoring, and support that help women strengthen practical business skills, improve employability, enter value chains, or develop small-scale enterprises. The organisation is also exploring evidence-based models that connect survivor support services with SME development, rural economic ecosystems, and cross-border economic opportunity.

This pillar is informed by a broader understanding of development in which inclusive economic participation contributes not only to individual recovery, but also to social stability, stronger local systems, and more resilient communities. In this way, OBI seeks to position women not only as recipients of support, but as active participants in economic life and local development processes.
