As we approach the fourth anniversary of the 44-day war in Nagorno-Karabakh, we solemnly remember the countless lives lost, the violence inflicted, and the enduring scars on the Armenian people. This war, initiated by Azerbaijan, violated the most basic human rights and sought to erase an entire people’s right to self-determination. Gender-based violence, starvation, forced deportations, and ethnic leansing have followed in its wake, culminating in the tragic events of September 19, 2023, when Azerbaijan launched a large-scale military offensive.
The Open Borders Institute reaffirms its commitment to justice, peace, and human dignity. We stand in solidarity with the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh and call upon the international community to recognize Azerbaijan’s ongoing campaign of aggression and ethnic cleansing. True peace cannot be achieved without accountability for these crimes and a commitment to protecting the fundamental rights of the oppressed.
Let this remembrance be a call for justice and an end to the inhumanity faced by the Armenian people.
